Oral malodor is primarily the result of microbial metabolism of amino acids from local debris in the oral cavity. The primary compounds of oral malodor are volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), such as   hydrogen sulfde (H2S), methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), and dimethyl sulfde (CH3SCH3). Periodontopathic anaerobic bacteria, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, Prevotella intermedia, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Eubacterium can produce large amounts of H2S and CH3SH from cysteine, methionine, or serum proteins.

Zinc ions have an inhibitory effect on oral malodor involving the two mechanisms of direct binding with gaseous H2S and suppressing the growth of VSC-producing oral bacteria.

It has been suggested that zinc binds to the membranes of microorganisms, similar to mammalian cell zinc, prolonging the lag phase of the growth cycle and increasing the generation time of the organisms so that it takes each organism more time to complete cell division.

How does Vi-one 2 in 1 Whitening + Fights Bad Breath work?

Vi-one 2 in 1 Whitening + Fights Bad Breath contains Zinc ion that have inhibitory effects on oral malodor and prevents Bad breath or Halitosis.

Whitening effect of Vi-One 2in1 toothpaste can be achieved by most effective mechanical polishing of stained plaque by hydrated silica which is harder than plaque but softer than enamel. In addition, negatively charge phosphates change the electrical load of colored stains adherent to enamel and remove them by replacing and repulsion them from plaque.
